ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
August 12th, 2026—mark this date in history as the day Iceland experiences its first total solar eclipse in over 72 years, and an event that won't occur again until the year 2196. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime celestial phenomenon, and travelers worldwide have already begun booking their flights months in advance to secure their place for this extraordinary moment. Join us for an exclusive small group experience limited to just 16 seats in our luxury Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, featuring premium leather seating and unparalleled comfort as we chase the perfect viewing location for this monumental astronomical event. Your dedicated guide captures professional photographs throughout this historic day, ensuring every magical moment is preserved forever. On this remarkable day, at precisely 16:47, the moon will begin its journey across the sun's face, culminating in approximately two minutes of total darkness at 17:48 when totality occurs. For those precious moments, day will transform into an eerie twilight as the sun's brilliant corona shines around the moon's dark silhouette, creating one of nature's most breathtaking spectacles. The path of totality—where the eclipse is visible in its complete glory—spans only 100 to 160 kilometers, and Iceland finds itself positioned perfectly within this narrow band, making it one of the premier locations on Earth to witness this celestial dance. What sets our eclipse tour apart is our unwavering commitment to providing the ultimate viewing experience combined with exceptional comfort and thoughtful amenities that no other operator in Iceland offers. While our luxury Mercedes-Benz Sprinter accommodates 20 passengers, we're limiting this exclusive tour to only 16 guests, ensuring everyone enjoys extra space, unobstructed window views, and an intimate atmosphere befitting such a momentous occasion. This deliberate limitation allows for a more personal experience where every guest receives individual attention and optimal positioning for both viewing and photography. Understanding that August weather in Iceland can be unpredictable, we're providing complimentary warm winter snowsuits for every guest—the only tour operator in Iceland to offer this premium amenity for eclipse viewing. While temperatures during this time of year are typically pleasant, the reality is that standing relatively still for extended periods while waiting for and observing the eclipse can leave even the warmest person feeling chilled. These professional-grade thermal suits ensure your complete comfort throughout the day, allowing you to focus entirely on the celestial spectacle rather than the temperature. We also provide comfortable outdoor chairs at the viewing location, so you can relax in comfort rather than standing for the duration of the eclipse experience. Whether the day proves warm or cool, you'll have everything needed to stay perfectly comfortable. Flexibility forms the cornerstone of our eclipse viewing strategy. Our expert local guides will continuously monitor real-time weather forecasts, cloud coverage predictions from the Icelandic Meteorological Office, and on-the-ground conditions throughout the day to identify the absolute best viewing location. We focus on two critical objectives: avoiding cloud cover that could obscure the eclipse, and escaping the crowds that will inevitably gather at well-known locations. Our guides' intimate knowledge of Iceland's hidden gems and lesser-traveled areas means we can position you in spectacular settings that most visitors will never discover, providing both optimal eclipse viewing and stunning natural backdrops for this historic moment. Our primary destination is the magnificent Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often called "Iceland in Miniature" because it showcases virtually every type of landscape the country offers—glaciers, volcanic craters, dramatic coastlines, black sand beaches, towering sea cliffs, and charming fishing villages. This relatively compact peninsula provides multiple potential viewing locations, giving us the flexibility to adapt quickly to changing weather conditions while ensuring you experience some of Iceland's most iconic natural wonders. Potential stops before the eclipse begins may include the legendary Mt. Kirkjufell, Iceland's most photographed mountain; the hauntingly beautiful Djúpalónssandur black sand beach with its scattered shipwreck remains; the dramatic coastal formations at Arnarstapi; and the perfectly formed Saxhóll volcanic crater offering panoramic views across lava fields. As the eclipse approaches, we'll position ourselves at our chosen viewing location well in advance of the 16:47 start time, allowing ample opportunity to set up cameras, adjust eclipse glasses, and simply absorb the anticipation building around this rare event. We provide eclipse glasses for every guest, ensuring safe viewing during the partial phases, along with extra tripods for those who wish to capture their own photographs alongside the professional images your guide will be taking. The two-hour progression of the eclipse creates a journey of increasing wonder—from the first moment the moon touches the sun's edge, through the gradual deepening of the partial eclipse, to the breathtaking moment when totality arrives and the world transforms. That moment of totality—when the moon completely covers the sun and the sky plunges into an otherworldly twilight—will be unlike anything most people ever experience. The temperature drops noticeably, stars become visible in the darkened sky, the horizon glows with a 360-degree sunset effect, and the sun's ethereal corona creates a shimmering halo around the moon's silhouette. It's a moment that transcends description, where time seems to pause and humanity's small place in the vast cosmos becomes beautifully, humblingly clear. Cameras will click, voices will hush in awe, and for those two precious minutes, we'll all share in witnessing something that connects us to centuries of humans who have stood beneath eclipses and felt that same profound wonder. Following the eclipse, as the moon continues its journey and sunlight gradually returns to the landscape, we'll celebrate this shared experience with traditional Icelandic snacks and drinks, giving everyone time to process what they've witnessed, share photographs, and exchange stories with fellow eclipse chasers. This celebratory moment serves as the perfect conclusion to an extraordinary event, allowing the group to bond over this once-in-a-lifetime experience before we begin our journey back to Reykjavík. The drive back to the capital provides time for reflection on this historic day, with arrival in Reykjavík by late evening. Throughout the approximately 12-hour tour, every detail has been orchestrated to ensure comfort, optimal viewing conditions, and memories that will last a lifetime. From the luxury of our Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with its limited seating to the provision of warm snowsuits, eclipse glasses, extra tripods, celebratory refreshments, and professional photography, we've anticipated every need to make this cosmic event as extraordinary as it deserves to be. This is more than just a tour—it's your opportunity to witness a celestial phenomenon that won't grace Iceland's skies again for another 170 years. With only 16 seats available and travelers worldwide already planning their journeys to Iceland for this event, we encourage early booking to secure your place for this once-in-multiple-lifetimes experience. The next total solar eclipse over Iceland won't occur until 2196, making August 12th, 2026 the only chance for anyone alive today to witness this astronomical wonder from the Land of Fire and Ice.HIGHLIGHTS

GOOD TO KNOW
Clothing and gear
We would recommend warm, water- and windproof clothing because it’s always useful in Iceland. Feel free to bring camera, tripod, binoculars, charging cable or power bank with you on this tour
Flexible itinerary
Like you read here above in description, all of our “potential stops” are “potential stops” for a reason before the eclipse begins in case we have to change locations with a short notice. Our main focus is on the Solar Eclipse and we know this region will be very busy on this day, so we will keep our itinerary loose. Our expert guides will monitor the weather and clouds to find the best viewing spot so that the plan will stay flexible! As we drive, you’ll take in Iceland’s stunning scenery—mountains, lava fields, and rugged coastlines—that set the scene for an unforgettable day. Once we reach the ideal location, you’ll have time to set up your camera, relax, and prepare for the main event. As the day goes on, the eclipse will unfold, with anticipation building every second until the big moment arrives!
Weather & Visibility
The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is our first choice for its optimal eclipse viewing position and spectacular scenery, but weather ultimately determines visibility. If cloud cover threatens our view, we’ll adapt quickly and relocate to clearer western regions—the same expertise we apply to our winter northern lights tours when reading weather patterns and making real-time decisions for optimal viewing conditions.
The tour duration
The tour duration is around 12 hours in total but because we know the western region will be very busy on this day, it could affect our driving time back to Reykjavík so it’s better to not make any plans in the evening after this.
No lunch stops possible
The region will be very busy on this day so there won’t be any stops along the way in order to beat the traffic. Therefore, you should bring enough snacks and meals to keep you energized throughout the day.
The cancellation policy for this tour
Cancellation fee of 100% if cancelled 72 hours or less before departure
Photos from the tour
We try to deliver the tour photos 24-48 hours after the tour with a photo link to our self hosted online gallery where you can download the photos in high res.
Traditional Icelandic snacks on the tour
The drinks we offer are Hot Chocolate, Snaps (Brennivín) and Tea. The snacks are Kleina (Twisted doughnut), flat bread with smoked lamb and butter, dried fish and butter, ginger bread, local favorite types of chocolate like Hraun Bitar, Æði Bitar and Draumur with black mild licorice straw inside. We can provide on request gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan, or vegetarian options. Please inform us in advance about any allergies or special dietary requirements so we can do our best to cater to them.
Pick up & drop off
We offer free pick up and drop off from most hotels, larger guest houses and cruise ship terminals in Reykjavik but there are some places where we are not allowed to stop according to Reykjavik City regulations preventing buses from driving in the city center. To find the way to the closest bus stop to your accommodation you can use busstop.is made by the council of Reykjavík City. Please note that we offer pick up only from Reykjavík. If you are staying outside the city then we can pick you up from N1 Gas Station at Ártúnshöfði.
